Conservation Agronomy Program Rolls Out ‘Know Your Cover Crop Series’
As part of the series, the program will release a short video weekly that introduces farmers to one cover crop and explains some of the benefits and challenges of growing it. The first video will be released on Monday, July, at 7 a.m. EDT. Farmers will also be encouraged to share their experiences growing cover crops through our social media handles.
The series will also introduce farmers to the Cover Crop Species Selector Tool developed by Precision Sustainable Agriculture, which helps them decide which cover crops to grow. On the tool, farmers key in various data, including their location, site conditions, cover cropping goals, and cash crop growing window, to receive detailed recommendations on which cover crop may work best for them.
Conservation Agronomy Program Extension Associate Austin Menker says farmers who are already planning their farming activities for next season can utilize this tool. “It is not too early to start planning for this Fall's cover crop, and the Cover Crop Selector Tool can be a valuable asset,” Menker noted.
